  • This provision does not meet requirements Children arrive happily at the club.
  • They receive a warm welcome from staff as they are greeted at their classroom.
  • Children happily chatter to staff about their day and what they have been doing.
  • Staff carry out regular head counts of how many children are present.
  • They use this opportunity to chal enge children's mathematical skil s as they add up the total number of people present.
  • Children enjoy being independent.
  • They put their belongings away and choose activities and equipment they would like to play with.
  • Children are eager to get involved with a craft activity.
  • They make selections from the broad range of materials to create their work.
  • However, children's safety is not fully assured because staff do not have an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding issues.
  • This means that they are unable to identify some signs that could indicate a child is at risk of abuse or harm, in order to respond in an appropriate way.
  • Staff do not explore language used by children.
  • For example, children create a character with construction material and use inappropriate language in their play, such as 'kil '.
  • Although staff intervene and tel them to stop, they do not question children's knowledge about such topics to recognise whether they might need to take further action to keep children safe, particularly online.
  • What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?n Although managers and staff receive some induction training and ongoingtraining, this is not yet effective in helping them to fully understand all aspects of their role and responsibilities.
  • It is not used wel enough to ensure staff fully understand different safeguarding issues to enable them to respond to any potential child protection concerns in a timely way.n Staff get to know children wel .
  • They form partnerships with the school settingwhere children attend and exchange information about what children are learning.
  • Staff use this to plan and provide children with exciting experiences to build on what they are doing at school.
  • For example, children have opportunities to create medals and flags to celebrate the school's 'Athletes' Day'.n Parents speak highly about the club and say that their children enjoy attending.
  • Parents comment that the staff communicate clearly with them and are in tune with their child's needs, which helps them to feel settled.n Children have a sound understanding of staff's expectations for their behaviour.
  • They follow instructions with ease.
  • Children join the line promptly when they are col ected from school and help to tidy away when they have finished playing with something.
