  • Children settle to activities, such as colouring festive pictures, constructing with plastic blocks and playing a game of giant dominoes.
  • They talk enthusiastically with the staff, sharing what they have done in school that day.
  • Staff have set up a good selection of activities for the children despite not being in their normal room, as it is being used for the Christmas Fayre that is taking place the next day.
  • Children share wel and help each other as they pass the pens when asked or take turns with the dominoes.
  • Staff encourage children to vote on what they would like to do next; stay indoors or go outdoors.
  • After some negotiation the children agree they want to play outdoors.
  • All children readily join in with 'bal tag'.

  • However, they walk around with their snack as they move to different activities and leave plates behind on tables.
  • This is not the case at tea time when a table is set up and children collect and make their own wraps.
  • They have a good selection of fil ings, and then sit and eat at the table.
  • They clear plates away at the end.
