- During a planned activity making play dough, many of the children were quickly bored because it did not meet their needs.

- What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?n The manager and staff get to know children's interests and needs wel , includingthose with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
- However, while the provision for personal, social and emotional development is strong, the curriculum does not focus on what individual children need to learn next.
- Learning is not precisely tailored and adult-led activities especially often get in the way of the skil s that children need to learn.n Partnerships with parents are good.
- Staff take time to get to know children andtheir families, building strong and trusting relationships.
- Parents comment that their children are happy at the setting and that parents have good opportunities to talk with staff about their child's progress.n Children are wel behaved.
- Staff support children wel to understand about goodbehaviour.
- They encourage skil s, including turn taking and remind children about sharing.
- Staff model good manners and treat one another with respect.
- They offer children praise and encouragement while they are playing.
- For example, children name animals and staff give them a 'high 5' in acknowledgement.
- Children are confident and self-assured.n Children are beginning to form friendships.
- They use their friends names andpoint to their photographs on the wall.
- Children are delighted when the bel rings and jump up excitedly to see which child is arriving at the door.
